About side control submission techniques

Side control gives you excellent submission opportunities because your opponent is pinned and defending with limited mobility. Kimuras, Americanas, and arm triangles are the primary threats. Each one builds on the same crossface and arm control you use to maintain the position.

The kimura from side control is one of the most reliable submissions in BJJ. Control the wrist, step over the head, and rotate the shoulder. If your opponent straightens their arm to defend, switch to the straight armbar or Americana.

Arm triangles work when your opponent turns into you to escape. Their own arm gets trapped against their neck. Squeeze from side control or transition to mount to finish. Pressure and patience are your best tools here.
