About single leg x submission techniques

Single leg X is the gateway to modern leg lock submissions. Your leg configuration already controls one of your opponent's legs, making the transition to finishing positions short and direct.

From single leg X you can enter inside sankaku for inside heel hooks, transition to outside ashi for outside heel hooks, or attack straight ankle locks and kneebars. The position gives you multiple finishing angles without needing to re-grip.

The key is controlling the knee line. Keep your opponent's foot trapped between your legs and use your outside hook to prevent them from freeing their knee. Once you have this control, your submission entries become much tighter.
