About back control submission techniques
The back is the highest-percentage submission position in BJJ. Your opponent cannot see your hands, making it extremely difficult to defend chokes. The rear naked choke is the gold standard, but bow and arrow chokes, short chokes, and collar chokes all work from here.
The rear naked choke follows a simple sequence. Get your choking arm under the chin, connect your hands behind their head, and squeeze. The challenge is getting under the chin. Use your free hand to strip their defensive grips and create the opening.
When your opponent defends the choke by tucking their chin, attack the arms. Armbars and kimuras from back control punish opponents who focus entirely on neck defense. The constant threat switching between chokes and arm attacks is what makes back control so dominant.
