About x-guard submission techniques
X-guard is not just a sweeping position. Your leg configuration gives you direct access to heel hook and kneebar entries. When your opponent defends your sweeps by posting or shifting weight, you can redirect into leg entanglements.
The transition from X-guard to inside sankaku or ashi garami is short. You already control one of their legs with both of yours. A small adjustment in your hook position opens up inside heel hook entries that are difficult to defend.
Combining sweep threats with submission entries makes your X-guard much more dangerous. Your opponent cannot focus entirely on base and balance when they also need to protect their knees and heels.
