About X-Guard

X-guard places you underneath a standing opponent with your legs forming an X around one of their legs. This gives you tremendous lifting and sweeping power while keeping you relatively safe from passes.

The position works by controlling your opponent's base. One foot hooks behind their far knee while the other pushes on their near hip or thigh. Small movements from here create big off-balancing effects.

X-guard connects naturally to single leg X, butterfly guard, and technical standup sweeps. Once you learn the entries from De La Riva or butterfly guard, you will find yourself here often.
