About Butterfly Guard
Butterfly guard puts you in a seated position with both feet hooked inside your opponent's thighs. This creates powerful lifting mechanics for sweeps and gives you quick transitions to other positions.
The butterfly hook sweep is one of the highest-percentage sweeps in all of BJJ. Combined with an overhook or underhook, a simple lift and turn can put you directly into a top position. The position also connects well to single leg X, X-guard, and back takes.
Stay upright and close to your opponent. If you lean too far back, you lose your sweep leverage. Use your hooks actively. Pull your opponent into you and off-balance them before committing to your sweep.
