About butterfly guard sweep techniques

Butterfly guard produces some of the most explosive sweeps in BJJ. Your hooks give you direct lifting power against your opponent's base. Combined with an overhook, underhook, or collar tie, you can sweep in multiple directions.

The classic butterfly hook sweep is your starting point. Pull your opponent onto you, load their weight onto one hook, and elevate while turning. The mechanics are simple but the timing takes practice. You need your opponent's weight committed forward before you lift.

Butterfly sweeps chain naturally into leg entanglement entries and back takes. When your opponent posts to stop the sweep, you can transition to single leg X or come up on a single leg. This makes butterfly guard a high-value position for the modern game.
