About butterfly guard guard techniques

Playing butterfly guard means staying upright and connected. Your hooks inside your opponent's thighs are your primary control points. Lose them and you lose the position.

Good butterfly guard starts with posture. Sit tall, keep your head above your opponent's, and use your hooks actively to disrupt their base. When they try to push you flat, use your frames and hooks to sit back up.

Butterfly guard connects to almost every other guard in BJJ. From here you can enter single leg X, X-guard, half guard, or full guard depending on what your opponent gives you. Understanding these transitions makes your butterfly guard much harder to pass.
