About de la riva guard techniques

De La Riva is one of the most versatile open guards in modern BJJ. Your outside hook behind your opponent's lead leg creates a control point that is difficult to strip. Combined with sleeve or collar grips, DLR gives you sweeps, back takes, and transitions to other guards.

Learning DLR guard means understanding the hook. Keep it active and deep behind the knee. Your free foot works on their far hip or knee to create distance and angles. When they try to disengage, follow their movement and re-establish.

DLR connects naturally to berimbolo, X-guard, single leg X, and reverse De La Riva. Building these transitions into your DLR game gives you options against every passing style your opponent might use.
