About half guard sweep techniques

Half guard is one of the best sweeping positions in BJJ. You already have one leg trapped, which limits your opponent's base. Add an underhook and you have everything you need to reverse them.

The basic half guard sweep pattern is simple. Get on your side, win the underhook, and drive into your opponent while lifting their trapped leg. Variations like the old school sweep and plan B sweep build on this same concept.

Half guard sweeps pair naturally with back takes. When your opponent defends the sweep by whizzering, you can come up the back door. This sweep-to-back-take chain is one of the most effective sequences in modern BJJ.
