About Side Control

Side control is a powerful pinning position where you control your opponent from the side. Your chest presses on theirs while you control their hip and head, making it extremely difficult for them to escape.

From side control you can transition to mount, knee on belly, north-south, or back control. You can also attack with kimuras, Americanas, arm triangles, and various chokes. It is a great position for wearing down your opponent with pressure.

Focus on keeping your hips low and heavy. Control the near-side hip and crossface to flatten your opponent. When they frame, use their arm position to set up submissions. Side control is where pressure passing pays off.
