About side control control techniques

Good side control is suffocating. Your chest pressure pins your opponent to the mat while your hands control their hip and head. The crossface turns their head away, killing their ability to shrimp. The hip control stops them from turning into you.

Stay heavy and connected. Do not leave space between your body and theirs. When they frame with their arms, swim through the frames and re-establish your position. When they bridge, absorb the movement and settle back down.

Use transitions to keep your opponent guessing. Threaten mount, knee on belly, and north-south. Each transition forces them to react, and their reactions create openings for submissions.
