About Half Guard (Top)
Half guard top means your opponent has trapped one of your legs between theirs. Your goal is to free your leg and advance to side control, mount, or back control while maintaining top pressure.
The crossface and underhook are your primary tools here. Use the crossface to turn their head away and the underhook to control their body. This combination flattens your opponent and makes their sweeps much harder to execute.
Do not rush the pass. Establish your grips and pressure first. Common passing options include the knee slide, leg weave, and backstep. Pick one or two and drill them until they become automatic.
