About leg entanglement submission techniques
Leg entanglements are purpose-built submission positions. Heel hooks, kneebars, toe holds, and ankle locks are all accessible depending on your specific entanglement and control of the knee line.
The inside heel hook from inside sankaku is the most powerful leg lock in modern BJJ. Control the knee line by triangling your legs around their thigh, grip the heel, and rotate. Outside heel hooks work from outside ashi with similar mechanics but different leg positioning.
Straight ankle locks and kneebars are legal at more belt levels and give you effective leg attacks even when heel hooks are restricted. Build your leg lock game from the ground up. Start with ankle locks, add kneebars, then progress to heel hooks as your control and safety awareness develop.
