About Bottom Mount
Bottom mount is one of the worst positions in BJJ. Your opponent sits on your torso with full control and can attack with chokes, armbars, and Americanas. Your only job here is to escape.
The two primary escapes are the trap and roll (upa) and the elbow-knee escape (shrimp). Both require good timing and technique. Protect your neck first, then work your escape when your opponent shifts their weight.
Do not panic and waste energy pushing with your arms. Keep your elbows tight, bridge with your hips, and create space with shrimping movements. Escaping mount is a fundamental skill that you will use at every belt level.
